My roommate is a tattoo artist, as I've mentioned before. He finally got around to ordering some bad ass business cards with his custom drawn artwork on them. He went for the full color foil process option and hot damn are these cards bad ass! Just check it out! Once my roommate showed him to the other guys at the shop they order some for themselves.
Here's a fun little item Chris brought back from Europe. It's a fairly standard business card. Linen stock with silver foil stamping, BUT it's a slightly different size than an American business card. Where as a business card in the United States and Canada would be 3.5"x2" a business card in say, The UK would be 3.346 × 2.165. It's not a HUGE difference but it's enough to notice.
This is a really slick looking business card too. The silver and brown colours compliment each other quite nicely. It smells like chocolate too! Sadly though, that just has to do with the card being packed in Chris's bag with some chocolate bars or something. How great would that be though?! Scented business cards! NICE!
Recently we were contacted by a company who wanted to have their business cards reprinted. No problem there. However, when we received the sample of what they wanted, along with what they were looking to spend we knew that the two wouldn't match up. It's an unfortunate situation but it does come up.
I was able to give them a price for the cards based on exactly what they wanted and, as predicted it was too high. No fear though! Here at Cat5ive Print Full Colour Printing our goal is to get the customer something that will make them happy. I showed them our Spot Metallic Silver cards with a matte finish and they absolutely loved them the concept.
The spot silver metallic ink in place of the foil stamping worked out perfectly and was a much much cheaper option compared to the stamping.
Bottom line here is that occasionally you may need to change the options on what you want to find a price that agrees with you, but this doesn't at all mean you have to sacrifice the design or quality of your business card.
Check out how hot these 16PT matte Spot Metallic Silver business cards came out!
Ladies and gentlemen today I would like to talk to you about something that is important not only to me, but to you too. Design.
Cat5ive Print Full Colour Printing wants to help all you graphic designers get the best printing for your designs, whether we are the ones who designed or not. You'd be amazed at how many very very talented designers out there who have sent us some great stuff to have printed in various formats. What I want to talk about today is the foil stamp. When designing something you'd like to have foil stamped you have to remember that very fine detail isn't the best idea. You have to remember that a foil stamp is literally a stamp that is pressed into the card using a metal die. Any very fine detail in your design will be lost during this process and probably not look all that good. Unfortunate but true.
If you have a design you want to be foil stamped and it's a very involved design, I'd suggest that you try the full colour printing foil process instead. It's still foil, just done in a different way. The foil is printed onto the card in the shape of your design and then the inks are printed on top of everything so anything that doesn't have foil below it will just be normal printed ink and the foil will stand out quite nicely. Finish it off with a glossy UV coating and you're all set!
Another suggestion would be to check out the full color metallic ink printing. It's not as shiny and sparkly as the foil process but it's very very cool looking. It's a little more tasteful and reserved than the full color foil process if you ask me. You can have it done in full color or as just a spot color depending on your design needs. The metallic ink is only offered with a matte finish and on nice thick 14PT or 16PT stock.

You know, the foil process isn't limited to just business cards…

I was recently talking to a couple of friends about promoting by putting flyers on cars etc. and I mentioned that when I see a flyer on my car I don't even register what it is, just that it's a foreign object on my window that must be removed immediately and deposited onto the ground without even looking at it. Why? Because they were crappy uninteresting flyers. Some generic party club flyer. You've seen hundreds of them and so have I.
Maybe if there was something shiny on the flyers….just maybe…they wouldn't get thrown to the ground as quickly. full color foil process can be just as easily applied to a post card as it can to a business card. They would at least get looked at and possibly saved just because they look cool. At least try to make it flashy, or original. Don't just put the same generic stock photos of people at a club or holding drinks on your flyer. Make your event stand out from the other 300 events in the same town offering the same things.
Better yet, let Cat5ive Print Full Color Printing design your event flyer for you! It's what we're here for!

Cat5ive Print Full Color Printing recently was contracted by an attorney. But in a good way!
This gentleman was intrigued by our foil process business cards and wanted to get some. We did what we do best and hooked him up with a business card that perfectly fits our customer.
Nice subtle coloring, silver foil. How many times have I said the full color process business cards are awesome? NOT ENOUGH!!!!
Check out his cards and the letter he sent us.
"Thank you so much for the business cards. It was a pleasant surprise to return to the office and find them displayed on my desk. They are very stylish, and immediately caught my eye. I look forward to recommending you in response to the numerous inquiries I am sure to receive upon offering these business cards to colleagues and clients.
Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Tom Graner"
Okay, so here’s the deal. I was thinking about maybe getting a tattoo, but since its permanent, I wasn’t too sure. I’m not going to let someone put ink on my skin if I didn’t dig their style or work. I’m not a judgmental person but if the artist doesn’t get my style then I don’t trust them to do something that is going to be on my body forever.
I was talking to a couple of my friends that already had some and they were telling me about this guy that had done a couple of their pieces. I was still a little unsure so my friend handed me his business card and I was intrigued just from that alone.
The card was like made out of some shiny material that looked similar to colored foil that you would cook with. And it had this amazing zombie looking thing with gauged ears and torn flesh. It was just so unique and exactly what I was looking for.
I called the guy and was talking to him and was asking what his work usually consisted of, what he preferred to draw, his specialty and everything else like that. Some how we got to talking about his personal style and why he chose the style of cards he did, where he got them from and everything else. He told me that it was indeed made of foil and that the zombie was just funky and cool which made me think, “ if this guy represents himself with foiled zombie cards, he’s got to be like really different.”
I was so excited to go and meet with him and work on an idea for my tattoo. Meeting him and talking to him a little I could see that his card fit him perfectly. He was unique and strange but in an insane, killer way. His work was like nothing I had ever seen before. I’m so happy that I found him to do my tattoo, all because of a business card that was passed to me.
It just goes to show you what your business card says about you and how powerful they really are.
I can't even begin to tell you folks how great our staff here is. Really! If you don't believe me, go on over to the Cat5ive Print Full Color Printing site and check out everything on there. All that was put together by our super star of web mastering, Katie, and her lovely assistant… Joe. They worked crazy hard on the site and got it up in record time. You gotta love 'em for that.
Between the two of them, you've got over 10 years of web design knowledge.
By the way, the images in the banners on the site were taken by none other than myself. I can take pictures… YAY!
How about some print design? That's Danielle right there. Yep, the MVP. Talk about talent. I've seen tons of people try to do what she does and fall so short it's almost disgusting. She's so good at what she does. She knows what the customer is looking for before they even do! Where else can you get that but Cat5ive Print people?!
Then there's Jack… The man could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves. Hell, he probably has!
Which brings me to the star of the office. Miss Nikki. She's what everyone who runs a company should look for in an office manager/customer service representative. Unbelievably helpful and just as sweet as …a really sweet thing. She'll get you whatever you need and answer all your questions no matter what. She's the best!!!
Oh and how could I forget our fearless leader Chris! Chris started Cat5ive Print so we could all have a home for our talents. A veteran of the design world, he's been at this for around 13 years. His direction is great when our designers hit a wall creatively, and he puts together some awesome designs himself…when he's not out racing his shifter kart.
I do stuff too but I can't sit here and talk about myself. Okay, so I will admit that I am the #1 team player of the office. Mostly I do the custom pricing, blogging and some general office work. Occasionally you'll talk to me if Nikki's on the phone. I help out. GO ME!!!
Since I haven't mentioned it for a few lines, be sure you head on over to LuiceDesign.net and pick yourself up something nice and shiny! If you have any questions and don't want to use up your daytime minutes, we have at least 2 live operators on the website ready to help and assist you out at all times. Head on over… HURRY!!!
The day has come! The day we've ALL been waiting for!!! Of course by "all" I mean "everyone in the building here." The brand spanking new, shiny, fresh from the factory, not a mile on her….I’m talking about the Cat5ive Print WEBSITE It has finally been launched. That's right! You heard me! LuiceDesign.net is finally active and ready to go.
It was a special day. We all gathered around a computer tower and whacked it with a bottle of champagne, which admittedly was not the best idea, but we HAD to christen the site in style!
Head on over to the site now, login and take her for a spin. Everyone is doing it! For those of you who only have a few minutes to spare (or are admittedly a tad bit antisocial!), you can order directly from the site without ever having to actually talk to someone.
